Бизнес-задача и ее решение
We had only 1 month to develop a game with AR and connect it to New Year postcard.
The following mechanics were created: generating sectors of the game world, driving the Santa Claus car along the 3 rd tracks, collecting and counting the collected gifts, traps (drifts, frozen puddles), a timer, the final cut scene.
The most difficult task was to generate a world that constantly bends along a parabola. The solution was to write the shader.
The task of the shader was visually bend the world, in fact the objects in the 3D scene were on the same coordinate plane. It also helped us to remove the extra load from the CPU and transfer it to a graphics card that quickly makes graphics’ calculations. The application was optimized and the further development was simplified.
Technology
We used Unity3D, C#, HLSL. We also used sdk and the Vuforia service to implement the augmented reality.

Russian Post (Russian: Почта России, Pochta Rossii), is a unitary enterprise which is the national postal operator of Russia. The company is responsible for the delivery of mail in Russia, and the issuing of postage stamps. Russian Post employs about 390,000 people and has over 42,000 post offices with its headquarters in Moscow.
Russian Post and Latum released New Year Postcard with augmented reality in November 2017. Russian Post and Latum had already experienced interactive postcards a year ago and sold more than 50 000 postcards with AR.
Postcard looks like ordinary paper card, but it has special AR-code (any picture).
How does it work?
First of all you need to download the app “Ded Moroz postcard” in App store or Google Play and launch it. Then you should point your smartphone camera at the postcard.
The picture displays traditional New year characters. If you want to send the postcard to somebody you may write any address using “Post market” service. But the sender is “Ded Moroz”.

“We met the team of developers in Udmurt republic in 2016. They presented their unique Gerber postcards (Gerber- is national holiday for Udmurt people, the idea of holiday is close to Thanksgiving day). The postcard displays udmurt people wearing national suits. When we pointed the postcard with smartphone camera they started singing national songs and dancing. They idea of using AR in postcard wasn’t new for Russian Post, but the project from Izhevsk (capital of Udmurt republic) was so colourful, sincere. We felt that developers put their heart and soul in it. We met developers’ team and discussed an opportunity to use AR technologies in our project. In 2016 we released pilot. Thousands of users are grateful to Latum company because they created spirit of new year. Today we discuss other projects using AR.”
